A LiveLaw Academy Programme
Indian Penal Code, 1860 → BNS, 2023
A comprehensive, systematic study of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — India's principal legislation governing substantive criminal law — taught by Advocate and Judiciary Mentor Arun Bhargava.
About the Course
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) — the principal legislation governing substantive criminal law in India. It covers the BNS in its entirety, with particular emphasis on foundational principles, important provisions and concepts, and the distinctions between closely related offences.
Beginning with the foundational principles of criminal jurisprudence, the course progressively examines the general principles of criminal liability, punishments, general exceptions, inchoate offences, and the entire spectrum of offences under the BNS — against the human body, women and children, property, the State, public tranquillity and public justice. Each topic is taught through statutory interpretation, conceptual analysis, illustrations and judicial precedents, with extensive discussion of landmark Supreme Court and High Court judgments and comparative analysis with the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
