Course Introduction

In 2020, the Government of India embarked on an ambitious exercise to reform the Criminal Justice System. On 11th August 2023, three landmark bills—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023—were introduced to replace the IPC, CrPC and IEA respectively. These new laws came into force on 1st July 2024.

The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) reforms procedural law with emphasis on efficiency, transparency, accountability and citizen rights.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) modernises substantive criminal law to reflect contemporary societal needs.

This recorded combo course provides a comprehensive understanding of both BNSS and BNS, delivering structured explanations, practical examples, and in-depth analysis of their provisions, scope and implications within the criminal justice system.
